Ok, I have successfully tested the 4.x branch on an old 32bit openSUSE 11.0 with Python 2.5 and Postgres 8.3 now.
Some tests assumed Postgres 9.x, so I added case distinctions for older Postgres versions to the tests in the 4.x branch. The trunk does not needs these because we require Postgres 9.x there.
Also made sure the tests for the 4.x branch are still running on the latest 64bit openSUSE Tumbleweed with Python 2.7 and Postgres 9.4.
