Hmm. I have pyqt installed through Homebrew, and it doesn't seem to
include iconv (actually the reaon I switched over to Homebrew from
MacPorts was because I wanted it to use system libs if available).
Atleast I don't see it anywhere in /usr/local/
I have no doubt what you say is still true for Fink and Macports though.

Well, the fact is that macports, fink and homebrew, all do the same:
- rely on system libcups
- have own version of libconv
Probably the reason is that nobody wants the burden of maintaining
libcups custom builds.
