Thanks all for the suggestions. Martin, "git checkout -b origin/python3" 
does work, thank you.

Hartmut I spent a little time playing with git-gui. It solves the above 
problem via Branch > Checkout, select "Tracking Branch" to see the remote 
branches, then it cautions me I am "no longer on a local branch" but should 
"create one now starting from 'This Detached Checkout'". Which I think is 
the same as what "checkout -b origin/python3" already did, but nice that it 
tells me. Now I need to read up on"local branch" and what it means to not 
be on one.

Bryan I downloaded SmartGit, goodness me, big UI. My git usage is pretty 
simple(-minded). After I have a few changes I will see how they are 
presented in each.
