A "common" issue, sadly. I'll try and make a PR as a starting point. Quick question - is there a "python" way to export an environment variable. That would, imho as an AIX expert, be a better way to pass an ABI setting (64-bit). For that patch, initially, I would test that the environment is either not set, or set to 32 (as 32-bit is the default environment) and other wise exit with "environment is not set properly to support 64-bit builds". -- That is one issue. The other is merely a typo (capital 'Z' should be lowercase 'z').
