The akhet is a logogram not a pictogram / icon, any pictorial component merely reflects its early origin.
The akhet connotes sun in the same way that the letter 'a' connotes an ox and the letter 'o' connotes an eye --- those being the original pictograms from which the alphabetic letters were derived.
Colour is irrelevant, the representational vehicle is the linear structure.
