FWIW, the Shabti documentation provides an annotated step by step "page-through" of the very direct and accessible Shabti boilerplate auth'n'auth solution, basically unchanged from that originally implemented by Ben Bangert and Dan Jacobs for the (now discontinued) tesla-pylons-elixir project (which has been brought up to date w.r.t Pylons 1.0):

http://packages.python.org/Shabti/authnauth/index.html

the page-through references code in the basic 'shabti_auth' template:

http://bitbucket.org/gjhiggins/shabti/src/tip/shabti/templates/auth/+package+/

which is itself documented here:

http://packages.python.org/Shabti/shabti_templates/shabti_auth.html

HTH.
