I just stumbled across:

http://docs.pylonsproject.org/projects/pyramid/en/1.4-branch/narr/commandline.html?highlight=easy_install#making-your-script-into-a-console-script

Which seems to have something to do with my problem. Sorry I've had minimal
exposure to setuptools and only on the installation side not the
distribution side.

My thinking at this moment is that the page that caused my confusion:

http://docs.pylonsproject.org/projects/pyramid/en/1.4-branch/tutorials/wiki2/distributing.html

should just recommend the simplest schme for installation which I think is
"python setup.py install" scheme, but mention and include a pointer to
making a script into a console script, which is probablly cooler.
