Nevermind, I figured it out. I just need one VirtualHost element with
multiple ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse lines within it:
NameVirtualHost *
<VirtualHost *>
ServerName mydomain.com
ServerAlias mydomain.com
# Logfiles
ErrorLog /home/me/myapps/log/error.log
CustomLog /home/me/myapps/log/access.log combined
# Proxy
ProxyPass /abc/ http://localhost:9000/ retry=5
ProxyPassReverse /abc/ http://localhost:9000/
ProxyPass /xyz/ http://localhost:9000/ retry=5
ProxyPassReverse /xyz/ http://localhost:9001/ <http://localhost:9000/>
ProxyPreserveHost On
<Proxy *>
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
</Proxy>
</VirtualHost>
