Well, apache-mpm-prefork is a non-threaded web server. I have no idea how that affects things concerning python threads, other than that our PyLucene application mostly does what we want it to running under it. I'm going to try a bit harder to see if I can break it now, though...
Another question... have people had more reliable luck running PyLucene under other Python web frameworks?
