In my specific case (Atom=('i4',2), a few million entries, Intel 
64bit CPU, ...) appending to the EArray is about 10 times 
faster then appending the same number of elements to the 
VLArray in rows with an average length of 1 and maximal length 
of 5. Reading is about 2 times faster.
