Excellent! You avoided me looking into this more in-deep :-)  And yes, I 
need to release Numexpr 1.4.1 more sooner than later.  Will try to do 
that as soon as possible.

Yeah.  This is the same problem with the NetCDF3 interface 
(http://www.pytables.org/docs/manual/ch07.html).  Again, if you are not 
going to make use of this interface, then you are safe.
