English isn't Latin.

Bizarre as it may sound, I still occasionally find that hard to remember. My English Language teachers were only really interested in teaching English Literature, and considered grammar to be one of those unfortunate things it was better to hide from students. It was in Latin classes that I learned how sentences are put together, and that's what I default to when I'm not thinking hard enough.
