I'm using the Windows UUID generation calls (UuidCreate and UuidCreateSequential in rpcrt4) only to get the hardware address, not to make UUIDs, because they yield results that aren't compliant with RFC 4122. Even worse, they actually have the variant bits set to say that they are RFC 4122, but they can have an illegal version number.
