I was about to suggest the same thing.

Even if your final patch is not currently accepted, it will remain on the tracker indefinitely, where interested parties can potentially use it in private customized versions that they compile themselves.

Technical discussion of your patch should mostly migrate to the tracker, as with other issues. The issue will appear on both the new tracker issues list and the weekly (Friday) tracker summary, so interested persons can comment or just insert themselves on the nosy list.
