I tried using multiprocessing.Pipe() and send_bytes()/recv_bytes() to send
messages between processes:

So the size of small messages does not seem to make much difference.
To the contrary, the lesson is clear: to speed up multiprocessing,
the larger the messages the faster it goes ;-)
