Java ... now says:

     "Class Object is the root of the class hierarchy. Every class has
     Object as a superclass. All objects, including arrays, implement the
     methods of this class."

Either for me, but I feel I should draw attention to the spelling. (Java is right.)

Ironically, the word derives from priesthood (hieratic), not from inheritance (heir).
