I don't know how Rani would take it, but if you are looking for guest tracking and other features, you can also try out meetup.com.I've used it (as a guest) for the Tel Aviv Entrepreneur meetup, and it seemed to work OK. Among other things, you can set events as publicly visible.
As for using facebook itself: personally, I don't like Facebook. It does seem reasonable to do some PR over there as well though, as long as the "center of operations" remains outside.
