Hi All, Monday's meeting saw Python Northwest return to MadLab for an group coding session. The event was well attended and it was great to see a couple of new faces join us. Beer and pizza were kindly provided by Tom M-J on behalf of ScraperWiki and David J kindly handed out some handsome mugs courtesy of Climate Code Foundation.
In attendance were Anand S, Andrew P, Daley C, David H, David J, David M, Flo L, Lawrence R, Martin, Safe H, Simon W and Tom M-J. The topic was climate data. Specifically, our task was to scrape various sources of climate data from the web suitable for input into ccc-gistemp ( http://code.google.com/p/ccc-gistemp/). After an introduction and discussion led by David J in which we considered what the data meant and what format we wanted it in, we broke off into pairs to get working on our respective scrapers in ScraperWiki. There were a couple of shouts of "We have data!" as groups finished their scrapers. The plan is for each group to post the URLs of their completed scrapers to the list. In summary, the evening was a enjoyable fusion of beer, pizza, tecchie chat and coding in Python. AOB: As Python Northwest's current Manchester venue, we felt happy with MadLab's location, facilities and atmosphere. We discussed whether we would like to return to a pub session for the next meeting, but it was generally agreed that alternating between talks and coding was preferable. A proposal was made up to hold some Python Northwest meetings in Liverpool as well as Manchester to make them accessible to a wider audience. /discuss Cheers, Safe Safe Hammad http://safehammad.com -- To post: [email protected] To unsubscribe: [email protected] Feeds: http://groups.google.com/group/python-north-west/feeds More options: http://groups.google.com/group/python-north-west
