I had a look at the project: The plugin providing access to api messages would probably be quite useful if one is limited to using mel.
As the asset management system  could use these callbacks directly through python, the plugin would not be required.

Your intro-page gives a nice idea of what users might want - so it's worth reading and thinking about it when designing a more general asset management approach.
