JOB DESCRIPTION

The Internal Studio designs and develops original games for all
PlayStation platforms. Games are published globally by SCE Worldwide
Studios. The Technical Art group of the Internal Studio provides
software scripting and 3D modeling/animation technology in support of
art production in the Studio.

Overall, the position of Technical Artist UI is expected to partner
with the organization to:

1.      Create and implement the UI (shell and HUD) for current project.
2.      Support the creative vision of our Game Directors and Art
Directors, while balancing the visual quality with the technical
constraints of the game engine.
3.      Proactively and collaboratively create and maintain the UI pipeline
to be bug free and iterative.
4.      Explore and push the capabilities of the UI engine and pipeline.
5.      Execute any and all other assigned duties to ensure the success of
our Studio projects.


REQUIRED SKILLS – This section outlines skills necessary to perform
the function. Examples of skill categories are:

•       PEOPLE: Must have the necessary skills to work alongside a team of
technical artists as well as engineering staff and production staff.

•       PROCESS: Must be quick at solving problems, proactive in the pursuit
of information pertaining to UI design and art asset specifications
for the UI. Must be able to think ahead of the potential bottlenecks
in the process of creating and implementing the UI assets and develop
the pipeline accordingly.

•       TECHNICAL:  Must possess very strong technical skills in 3D computer
graphics production. Expertise in Maya or equivalent 3D modeling
software is required. Mel Scripting is required. Must have a good eye
for UI graphics/functionality and approach the process of UI creation
and implementation as an iterative process developing tools and
pipelines that meet that workflow.

•       PLANNING/IMPLEMENTATION: Must be capable of analyzing the visual
goals and breaking these goals down into prioritized tasks for UI
implementation keeping in mind that the studio works in an iterative
manner. Must provide regular status reports. Should show flexibility
to accommodate changes in task priority or project needs..

•       INDUSTRY: Must have experience in HD computer graphics. Should have
hands-on art development experience and or technical art experience on
at least one commercially released videogame.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS – The Technical Artist - UI reports to the
Manager, Technical Art Group.
