What version of wxPython are you using? I have not updated my build of SPE to work with the latest version: mine still runs against 2.5.3.1. I believe the developer has just released an updated version: I'll track that down in the next couple of days and try to get a new build posted to my website.
SPE is very actively developed, and there is a mailing list. The main SPE site is http://spe.pycs.net.
