Hi all, Sorry this has taken forever and a day, but I didn't really want to say too much until I had something ready to show. Here is a 3D mock- up by Kenichi Yoshida (http://www.kenichiyoshida.jp/), who I've been working with on the icon.
http://kevino.theolliviers.com/0406_macpython.jpg I think if you look at the design, you can pretty much tell the 'concept' behind it, but I'll go ahead and mention it anyways. :-) Basically, the blocks are the "building blocks" of Python. By putting those blocks together, of course, you get something that is greater than the sum of its parts - in this case, Python. Python (the language) is also the "glue" holding the blocks together. I personally like this icon quite a bit. It shows the modular nature of Python, and also has a sense of creativity embedded in it. The thought of building castles, ships, etc. from Legos immediately came to mind to me, and I thought that was such a fitting image for Python, particularly because it gives an image of trying things out and experimenting which is what Python is all about, IMHO. I personally can't think of any other icon design I've seen that pays homage both to the 'snake' image of Python, and yet also expresses the core ideas behind the language in such a visual and intuitive way. As an icon, the shape is colorful and distinctive but IMHO not too busy, so this icon will be recognizable even at small sizes. Some things to note: - The final icon will be in the OS X photo-illustrative style (see his web site for examples). This 3D mockup is to review the design of the icon. - We plan in the final design to put a basic face onto the head - think of the lego character faces; two white eyes with black dots, a line for the mouth, probably two black dots for nostrils, etc. I think that will further stress the creativity aspect of it and make it a little more distinctive as an icon. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks, Kevin _______________________________________________ Pythonmac-SIG maillist - Pythonmac-SIG@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/pythonmac-sig
