Basically, if you're running /usr/bin/python or Python.app directly, you still won't get a dock icon even if you're using appscript. The app is
marked as an agent application -- still trying to figure out just what
that means.

That means you won't get a menu bar either. "agent application" seems to mean an application that is usually completely hidden but needs to pop up GUI items (such as windows) sometimes. Agent applications don't have a dock item, and don't have a menu bar either.
