As we have had the possibility of relicensing confirmed by a member of OPEN
CASCADE S.A.S. I think we can let this topic rest for now and wait for the
decision on relicensing.

I'm trying to give a short summary of this thread in case it will be picked up
again:

Distributing pythonOCC in its current form may violate PyQt's license (GPL):
The GPL is incompatible with the Open Cascade Technology Public License and
pythonOCC might be considered a derivative work of PyQt. However nobody knows
this for sure, not even the GNU FAQ give an answer. The authors of PyQt claim
that using PyQt makes a program a derivative work of it.

There is a chance of having OCCT relicensed under a license which is
compatible with the GPL.[1] The decision will be made in a couple of weeks.
This is at least partly due to the efforts of Denis Barbier. Thanks, Denis!

If OCCT is not relicensed another possibility to accomplish compatibility with
PyQt's license would be asking the developers of PyQt for a linking exception.

If both of the above fail a remaining option would be to use PySide instead of
PyQt. According to jelle this would be pretty trivial for pythonOCC itself.
However existing projects based on pythonOCC and PyQt might require more work.

Relicensing pythonOCC under the GPL, which was suggested too, would not solve
the problem.
