Thanks for your nice words, Thomas and Jelle! Concerning "release early, release often": I think the main incentives for developers to do that is a) get bug reports b) get patches / other code contributions. Now I already know about enough bugs, most of which I won't be able to fix during the work on my thesis. And as the thesis must be my own work, I can't even accept patches by other developers right now. So if I open-sourced my project and there would be others who wanted to contribute, they would have to fork my project right away.
