I tend to think OpenUSB is more or less dead. They use libusb mailing
list as well but I have not seen anyone posting any updates about
OpenUSB for about a year (last post was sent by me about the
building problem for newer version of Linux). The last svn commit
is about 15 months ago.

Even if it is not totally dead as yet, it does not seem to be popular at all
as compared to libusb-0.1 and libusb-1.0.
