Hi,

you're right. However, I think it's a documentation bug. I would not  
like to change it. Several reasons:

1) As we have centered = 1 by default (which I like), it will  
influence a lot of figures ... they all will get shifted bboxes, which  
might create quite some confusion.
2) If your figure is too big, you'll get an exceeds paper size  
warning, which is nonsense if you do not specify a papersize.
3) A4 is just too arbitrary. I know we do have some arbitrary defaults  
at some points (mainly the default unit being centimeters), but this  
is just because we do need some defaults for that. The papersize isn't  
important on an equal level.

+1 for fixing the manual and leaving the code as it is. Comments?
