With PyX from svn, I often get warnings of the following form:

We are about to extract font information for the Type 1 font 'MT2MIT'
from its pfb file. This is bad practice (and it's slow). You should use
an afm file instead.

(That's a font from the MTPro2 set which comes without afms).

Would afm files without kerning information suffice to make PyX happy?
Can we produce them from the pfb and tfm somehow (once and for all)?
What are the downsides of not having thme?
