While I agree that this current approach may seem more logical, unfortunately almost every other design program behaves the way Andreas described. It's rather jarring trying to get used to this new behaviour. I'd suggest following the de-facto standard and flipping the horizontal/vertical guides over. Great feature BTW -- thanks for adding it!
