+1 for 4.8 as the minimum version.
4.8 is on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS release.

+1 for 4.8 too
As mentioned in earlier posts .. old Qt might only be interesting
running on servers .. and people using server should be able to
configure them (meaning being able to install everything by themself
if they really want to use very old distributions)

I do not like the idea of being held back from upgrading minimal
requirements by one distribution. I think it is fairly reasonable to
expect that only older software will work with older distributions.
Moreover, I guess the share of CentOS/Redhat users is quite low even
just among linux users because it is mainly server oriented. And even
then those users should not have trouble installing newer Qt from
third-party packages.
Finally, newer versions of Qt are also more stable - with a release
of
new minor Qt version the older branch typically stops receiving
further bugfixes.
agreed fully - with tens of Linux distros, keeping with the one with
the oldest Qt is
a major drawback.
besides this, I think we should move forward with a decision: having
the same
discussion as one year ago, and not taking a decision, would be
pointless.
in short: +1 for 4.8, please send your opinion.
all the best.
