Try this in a Terminal (if the GDAL framework isn't in your shell PATH, you 
must use the full path to gdalinfo):

gdalinfo --formats

and see if the GRASS raster format is in the list.  If not, try turning on GDAL 
debugging and run gdalinfo again for more info:

export CPL_DEBUG=ON
