I have just configured a XP virtual machine with 256mb of ram, 12mb of
them shared for the "video card". Qgis 1.5/osgeo4w it is still (very)
usable after throwing in a bunch of vector,rasters and wms/wfs layers.
It took 25 minutes to generate the contour lines of an entire country
(Portugal) using 20m of interval and a dem with 80m of resulution.
The same dem shows fine in 3d using the nviz GRASS module trough the
qgis/GRASS plugin.
