Dear list,

we seem to be in a Python thing now. Afaik, Python should only matter,
when it comes to plugins - startup should not be a python related issue.
Donovan, did you enable any plugins? The most easy way to sort out that
problem would be to mv /home/donovan/.qgis to /yourpalate. With an
empty .qgis folder I'd expect you to be able to start QGIS, cause no
fancy plugins will be loaded. Should it refuse to start you might have a
qt compatibility issue, which is what I expect.

good luck!
