Hello,

Could you please give us a bit more information about what do you mean by
working with coordinates?

All information about how to work with projections in QGIS is in this
section of the user manual:

http://docs.qgis.org/1.8/html/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_projections/working_with_projections.html

To open a CSV file where coordinates columns exist, please look at this
section of the user manual:

http://docs.qgis.org/1.8/html/en/docs/user_manual/plugins/plugins_delimited_text.html?highlight=delimited%20text

Also, to specify data types of csv columns, take a look to this post by
Anita Graser.

http://anitagraser.com/2011/03/07/how-to-specify-data-types-of-csv-columns-for-use-in-qgis/

Hope it helped.
