Hi Allan:
A shapefile is a collection of files and the <shapefilename>.prj
contains the original projection information. When you reproject a
layer, export it as a new shapefile and the reprojected coorindates as
well as the *.prj file will be written.
This may the problem you are encountering.

Dear All,
Excuse my very basic question and please explain me the steps to
solve this problem:
When I import a SHP to be place above a DEM under WGS 4326 it does not
adjust to this SRC after assigning this code and even when it is
reprojected remains with the original UTM-SRC. This problem comes from
time to time.
Best,
Allan López
