I recall that when we started out with looking at RDF implementations, we chose Sesame primarily for "community" reasons, and that their development process was much more open. This is likely to change now, and it will be interesting to see alternate implementations of our RDF things on top of Jena, to compare performance. And with an Apache development model, the community members should also become much more accessible.
I *could* also volunteer as a Mentor, to get closer to these guys if that would help this community.
