Absurd comment. Windows is a different system on a different platform. We are talking about buying a more efficient O/S and maybe some better hardware for the same system.

Nope you're not...
Not squeezing everything you can from the hardware is Windows' game... and in any case it will cost you less than investing in new QL hardware... you HAVE to get something more out of it unless it is not worth it

Fine so why are you making such a meal of it? Get on and do it.
<SNIP>
you DON't HAVE to buy SMSQ/e to use colour on the Aurora... you can still program the hardware yourself ;-)
See above

So if you are able to NOT buy something extra and still use the features of your hardware, that's incentive enough for the program to be bought to begin with.... this is called a good bang for the buck here (and everywhere else).
This is fine if it works but the QWord developers are the ones who are saying the system has not been set up how they want it and complaining that it is extra work for them trying to sort out the problems.

Nobody is complaining... unless you count as complaints creative input towards perceived (or not) problems or omissions in the OS... I thought the whole point of an Open Source OS was to allow improvements... well improvements do not come about if someone doesn't notice the problems :-) or provide input about them... if you remember how the new PE came about it was after a suggestion of mine to Marcel (and a lot of nagging)... Unless you don't like the way it looks now and you'd rather go back to what it used to look :-)

No fine go ahead and write it and we can all benefit. Mind you it will be SMSQ/E and not QDOS.
No one said that. But then you can't take colour photos with black and white film.

Nope but you can still take colour photos with a traditional film camera and you do not need a Digital one (and that's the correct analogy in this case)
Its about as valid as mine with travel

What you are in essence saying is that people that will not follow the mainstream should be cast away as irrelevant... I am sorry but I to disagree on this...
No, we suggest they should invest in the system they use IF they want to use software that is slightly beyond the reach of the hardware they have. That way they feed back to they system and encourage people who do all this work to keep doing it.

See the problem is that the software IS NOT beyond the reach of the hardware... else not even Marcel's colour drivers would have been a reality... if that were the case we wouldn't have done it... yet we have... and it works.. and in any case illegal or not, Rich has found a good way (that works) to detect the presence or not of colour drivers... so what's all the fuss then :-D
It was you and Rich that were making it. I just commented on it.
