Now, this raises the question, why do we not have a native QL program
that can convert one of the major image formats to a _scr image
directly? I found tons of stuff that converts between formats plus
from _SCR to others. The only one I found reference to was called
BMP2SCR but I could not find a copy any where on the net.Dilwyn has a copy it seems: http://homepages.tesco.net/dilwyn.jones/djpdsoft/djpdlib.txt

Yes, I actually saw this in the catalog listing but saw that it wasn't on Dilwyn's website or in my PD CD that I have from him or anywhere else I could find. It would be nice to have them so, Dilwyn, thanks in advance for posting them.
Malcolm Lear has written some SBASIC programs to convert between SCR and BMP although I can't remember which way (QL to Windows, or Windows to QL) as I'm at work.Drat, me and my big mouth. I thought these were on my website as well as in the PD library as TF mentioned. I'll try to remember to post them there tonight, or I could email them from home to you Jim in case you need them another time.
Missed these but Wolfgang also refreshed my memory from last years effort that he has some routines buried in some of his stuff.
Again, not being too sure from memory - didn't Phoebus write a graphics conversion program which ran in Windows and converted between Windows and QL graphics? If I could remember the name I could probably tell you if I had a copy. Maybe this was what Rich Mellor was referring to.
Yes, Rich was kind enough to forward a copy to me but unfortunately Phoebus is using Microsoft's .net stuff which I don't feel inclined to load onto my Windows NT which I use for QPC (sorry guys, personal preference). I appreciate Phoebus' effort in this but it will require some of the more recent updates to be installed and I don't know how far back .net supports the different windows flavors.
Sounds like we have several solutions, just need to get them more visible. Thanks everyone for the help - will be useful as people start using QDT and get creative with their desktops.
Cheers, jim
