First, the "future is emulators" is not really my own opinion, but the
prevalent view at the workshop.

Rather sad really, although I'm an emulator man myself as my main
system is a PC with QPC2, but I still have and still use an Aurora SGC
system and a QL+Gold Card. It would be really sad if this sort of
viewpoint caused no more hardware developments and adversely affected
sales or development of Q60 or future machines. I'm sure that "future
is emulators" will probably annoy quite a few QLers who prefer native
hardware like Q60 or expanded black box QLs or the like.

Current QPC2 does indeed report itself as 68010 and frustrates people
like George Gwilt who write 68020+ instructions into their software.
George elaborated on this situation at some length at Manchester. See
my web page about the show for more details, but in a nutshell, George
has taken the QPC2 sources and added emulation of 68020+ instructions
into SMSQ/E or rather into QPC2's 680x0 emulation system (he had this
version running at Manchester), so future versions should be able to
do Gwass and other such programs once George's code is integrated into
full official releases. George was also hopeful that packages like C68
would get the update treatment over time, although I'd be careful and
say that QPC2 is likely to be the only emulator including emulation of
68020 or later processor instruction set.

I'm sure George could tell us more about this, but I'm pretty sure the
above is correct.
