The stock Windows XP SP2 CD (Home, Professional and corporate install versions) won't be able to access SATA devices (unless the BIOS makes them pretend to be PATA). It's quite probable that the Toshiba XP install CD will have the interface drivers added already. It would be silly if they didn't do this.
