Quanta members will now have received their, rather late, April/May magazine. I
am not sure whether my reputation has been more damaged by page 5 or page 8,
but I suspect the latter.

Quanta has falsely misrepresented the statements I expressed at the AGM by
saying that I "had always felt that John (Mason) was an excellent chairman"

In fact at the AGM I made it quite clear that I was specifically referring to
his chairing of committee meetings and not to his chairmanship of Quanta as a
whole. I have always felt he often performs weakly in public meetings.

In spite of the many, often public, disagreements I have with John, I believe
in fair play and there is a side of John that Quanta members do not have a
chance to see. I have no hesitation in repeating the tribute I paid to him at
the Quanta AGM.

John Mason is one of the finest chairman of a committee meeting I have ever
seen. He always does a thorough preparation before the meeting, has a good
grasp of the issues to discuss and knows how to keep a meeting in order. He
also ensures that the agenda is completed and the business properly done.

Having said that I am not at all impressed by his chairmanship of Quanta. The
kindest way I can put it is that my impression is that when John became
chairman he had the naive assumption that the chairman of Quanta was the pope
of the QL community and therefore infallible and automatically to be respected.
Any pain he may have felt by the discovery that the respect did not come
automatically will have been more than compensated by his enduring belief in
his own infallibility.

If you think I have been too cruel then let me remind you that John Mason was
the person who on 20th November 2004 falsely claimed this list had been a
Quanta initiative and if we were not good children who showed him due
deference, he would close this list down,

Yours mischievously,

Geoff
