There seems to be a lot going on despite the rapid reduction in contributions
(as usual in the summer months) to the QUANTA Magazine. Very many contributors
to this list have made a very welcome return recently after lurking for some
considerable time. (Even I can be labelled a short term Lurker!) Are any of you
prepared to send me an article for publication in the QUANTA Magazine - maybe
in our 'Points of View' section which, in the past few months has been a
regular feature. Our chairman (and others) have made an effort to extract
snippets from the entries on this list to stimulate a few topics of interest.
Are you prepared to spend a few of your spare minutes between your QLing and
the next World Cup Match to help her out or as she suggests will you all just
sit back and leave it all to her and other WORKING Members of the QUANTA
Committee?
When did you last make your views known?
Or are you one of the many who sit back and criticise the efforts of those who
are trying to do something POSITIVE. I know which side I would rather be on!
Two recent events which seem to have gone well are the Workshop/meeting in
Austria over the long weekend of 3rd to 6th June, organised by Gerhard Plavec
and the more recent Vintage Computer Festival at Bletchley Park where we were
ably represented by Rich Mellor.
Is anyone prepared to write a brief report on either (or both) of these events
with supporting High quality photographs?
Do not be put off by your limited knowledge of the English Language or grammar
as we can edit your contribution as required.
I would have produced something for the next issue had the COPY DATE not been
5th JUNE 2010, several days after I received the issue containing the
information!
George
It seems that my first attempt to reply to George's comment is lurking
in the ether somewhere so, with a little bit of cut and paste, here it
is again:_
You make a very valid point, George.
The April/May issue was delayed but once it has gone to the printer, it
is not possible to amend any of the content (like the Copy Date of the
next issue)
However, the editor is only too pleased to accept copy at ANY TIME and
that will be published in the next issue. If, however, the contributor
wants to get his/her contribution into a specific issue, the it should
be received by the editor on or before the published Copy Date.
(Normally the 5th of the Even month i.e. 5th August for the Aug/Sept issue)
Having said all that, I am putting the June/July issue together as I
write this reply in an effort to get the Magazine back to its intended
publication date as soon as possible. If you have something to
contribute, please let me know asap and give me some idea of when the
copy will be available so that I can decide whether to delay this issue
or to hold your contribution over to the next issue.
Thank you for your offer of copy for the QUANTA Magazine.
Regards to all. (Back to work on the Magazine!)
Hope this one gets through,
John Gilpin.
Acting QUANTA Magazine Editor.
