The point is that Daniele has worked hard to produce a runtime
version of Q-emuLator, which comes packaged with the games - there is
no F1/F2 screen, no access to the original games files, it emulates
the original QL speed, and people would not realise that the games
are running on a QL emulator.
If other emulator authors are willing to adapt their emulator to
provide a runtime version and a method of distributing the
runtime+games as one package (which cannot be used to extract the
games), then yes, I am willing to talk with them - although I am not
certain all of the games will run under SMSQ/e. Plus, they would be
much too quick running on QPC2.
So basically this is a "QL games pack" that cannot actually be
transfered to a real QL, as the games cannot be extracted ?
Why is that ? Yes I realise that a lot of people might want to run
stuff on emulators, but call me a traditionalist, I'd also like to be
able to run these on a real QL.
Cheers.
Phill.
As I say, the games are still available for purchase individually for
use on a real QL.
The idea behind the games pack (and the only way we could get the price
so low, with the authors agreeing to substantially reduced royalties),
was to make it have mass market appeal - ie. accessible to the wider PC
market who may be interested to find out more about the QL and thereby
to raise general interest in the QL itself.
If enough people ask for a similar games pack to be released on disk for
the QL, then we may consider it (subject to the author's consent).
Unfortunately, experience suggests that the majority of people who want
to play games on the original QL have basically the standard black box,
and no disk drives or disk interface (let alone extra memory as required
for a couple of the games). I can still distribute games individually
on microdrive, but they takes a lot of time and effort to produce and
then half the time, they no longer read when they are in the recipients
hands, as the felt pad just disintegrates.
