I'll echo that Dilwyn
Just had a Hub 3 from BT after complaining for months about an
intermittent drop out, so far the new hub seems to have cured it but top
speed is around 2.8 , this is fast enough for most of my needs although
the Iplayer needs to be cranked down to normal definition at times.
Other providers would use the same line so (4 miles from the exchange),
Sky won't even supply broadband on our line so were stuck with it.

That's my whole point these things ain't available round here. So many
people we know are on "up to 8mb/s" ADSLs and hardly anyone gets more

countryside!
The Welsh government and local authorities are always talking grand
plans to invest in infrastructure, but as usual the north west of Wales
always seems to be last to get anything, way behind the M4 corridor and
north east Wales (i.e. the major population centres).

Interesting you should say that - I am on cable (Virginmedia) and as it
happens my speed was doubled overnight from 10Mbps to 20Mbps (at no extra
cost to me). I can now get up to 120Mbps if I was prepared to pay the
premium for the extra speed.
Talking to a friend, it appears that Virginmedia's current round of
internal
network upgrades are preparing them to deliver speeds of up to 400Mbps to
consumers when the time is right. I believe that is based on fibre
technology up to the street level, and then copper for the last leg into
customers houses. I would not be surprised to see any new installations
starting to use fibre for that last hop as well assuming that is not
already
happening.
Could somebody persuade Mr Branson to cable up round our way then?
Orange ISP offer us "up to 8mb/s", we get up to 2mb/s at best, and it has
gone back (after nearly a year of behaving) to dropping down to dial-up
speeds at peak times (i.e. when kids come home from schools and people
return home from work tea time). Exchange is "only" 200metres down our
road.
10mb/s would be heaven around here!
