I'm sorry for interrupting this interesting discussion, but why don't we
just make simple 3colour logo flag-like logo ?
Simple two squares / white and red/ underlined by thin horizontal black
rectangle would do.
I have tried that and it looks very much like QL in MODE 4 and resullting
GIF is very small (4 col, 150x100- 500ish bytes). If someone would make
animated GIF flag from it, it would make a really cool  flag, representing
a QL nation ;-)

BTW: I took a peek at forementioned link and see no reason for alarm. This
guy's logo is more than sufficiently different.
