Don't ask me, that's Tonys job. I can't save the world alone ;-)
But yesterday I tried another little experiment which could solve our
printer driver problem. Due to a program called Redmon it is possible
(with the normal QPC2 final) to link Ghostscript directly to the PAR
device. This means that one can send Postscript code to the PAR device
and it gets printed correctly on every printer Windows supports!
The problem with this solution: there are no Postscript drivers for
SMSQ/E, at least none I know of. But as a Ghostscript port is also
available for other SMSQ/E systems (like the Q40) it might be worth
looking into writing some drivers for our system. Having postscript
drivers for the major programs (ProWesS etc.) would then really be the
final solution to all printer problems.
An ASCII to Postscript converters is available in source code, IIRC.
This could be a good place to start. Unfortunately I've neither the
time nor the knowledge to do anything in this respect. But hey, I'm
not the only programmer here ;-)
What do you think?
