It didn't show this strange behaviour when formatting the syquest?

I have reformated my /dev/hda2 today with
  qxltool -W /dev/hda2 0 xx xx xx
and it worked perfectly.

There is no way it could have touched the first partition when used like
this. The rest is complete mystery, can linux still see the partitions?
Could you try qxl_fschk on the partitions?
Perhaps part of the problem is that hda2 now has an unfinished filesystem.

it is still dangerous in some circumstances.
