Marcel,
how possible it would be to patch SMS on-demand in order for the scale 
command to work properly on 4:3 screens.?
Otherwise for graphics on non 2:1 screen we still need to POKE_W around ;-)
(According to Steve Poole (QLT vol.2/iss.6/p.50) scale is calculated as: 
.74*vertical_scale*(window_pixels_across/window_pixels_down) )
