Well the box is not that big (5 1/4" form factor IIRC which in any case you

You can still buy Hot-Swap IDE removable bays but be prepared to pay more 
than $39 (a lot more)

Well I think that would do the trick for him (or me if I were looking for a 
similar solution).
I mean it's a small "price" to pay if you don't want to spend the money.
