I thought to be clear, that replacing membranes is
something completelly different than refurbishing and replacing parts of the QL
itself. Qeyboard might be a very nice idea, but useless if you need to keep the
QL in original condition. My point of view is not of the developer/QL fan etc.,
but of the collector, that needs an original QL up and running. So, Qeyboard and
membranes, are not competitive to eachother. I would never modify my QLs anyway
:-)
I have already contacted Cherry, and can build in
any qty, from 1pcs to 10Kpcs. The tooling and design expenses are the main
part of the total cost. I am negotiating with them directly, but it will take
sometime to proceed. I also have more than 30+ first contacts with membrane
manufacturers already, half of them in the states and far east.
I need to build a "dossier" with all membrane specs
and/or scans and drawing, in order to give it away quickly. Could anybody help
me on that part?
If you are interested (I am) I could inquire about
building on the same batch, membranes for the ZX48K and the ZXPlus or ZX81s. But
I would really need their designs in electronic form.
Cheers
I hope that we can resolve this fairly quickly - of course, before making a decision to order some new membranes, we need an idea of cost per unit and also the anticipated cost and sale price of Dave's new QeyBoard, so that the various QL traders who would be willing to contribute to the costs and sell these membranes, can weigh up whether users will stick with the original membrane or should be steered towards the Qeyboard. At the moment, there are only 14 membranes requested on my guestbook, so maybe the interest in a new batch of membranes isn't there after all (hint hint to those who have not left any messages). I think that ordering more than 200 membranes would be pointless, and so we need an idea of the minimum order requirements. Maybe Tony's idea of adding it to a Spectrum membrane order may help in this regard.... -- Rich Mellor RWAP Software 35 Chantry Croft, Kinsley, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF9 5JH TEL: 01977 610509 http://hometown.aol.co.uk/rwapsoftware |
